Andy Taylor ACS

Andy Taylor ACS, is one of Australia’s most experienced freelance documentary cameramen and an accredited member of the Australian Cinematographers Society.

His work over the past 30 years has been recognised with 26 Australian Cinematographers Society Awards, and 5 prestigious Walkley Awards for Cinematography.

From 2009 until 2016 Andy filmed stories throughout Australia and around the globe for 

60 Minutes - Australia’s leading current affairs program. He has covered every story genre, from human interest, natural disasters, wildlife and adventure, celebrity profiles, cold case murder mysteries, and much more.....

Previously he was the senior cameraman at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, where he worked for 25 years based in Sydney, London, and Moscow. Shooting credits included 96 episodes of Four Corners, and many stories for Foreign Correspondent,  Australian Story, 7.30 and Lateline. 

Andy has also filmed prestigious documentaries for National Geographic, Dateline NBC, the BBC and ABC. He has also shot several dramas, short films, corporate and music videos.

His work has taken him to over 115 countries and territories, working extensively throughout the USA, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and the Pacific. Covering many wars, conflicts and areas of civil unrest including: Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Gaza, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Rwanda, Zaire, Angola, the Balkans, East Timor, Indonesia, PNG, Northern Ireland, North Korea, Abkhazia and Russia. He has filmed major natural disasters including earthquakes in Fukushima, Haiti, Armenia and the 2004 boxing day tsunami in Ache. Andy has been shot at many times, shelled, ambushed and attacked, arrested by the KGB, kidnapped by the IRA and confirmed dead in an plane that was shot down.

Exotic assignments Andy has filmed include: scuba diving with leopard seals in Antarctica, bull sharks in Fiji and crocodiles in the Okavango Delta, trekking to Everest Base Camp, summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, the Kayapo people of the Amazon, the Crystal Caves of Mexico, the Kokoda Track, the Northern Lights in Svalbard, Marum Volcano in Vanuatu, the tunnels below the Gaza Strip, the Brazilian Favela’s, Nuclear testing at Mururoa Atoll, and diving on WW2 wrecks at Bikini Atoll. 

He is a licensed drone operator holding a remote pilots license (RePL) certified by CASA and he is a PADI advanced open water scuba diver. 

His training and education include: an Advanced Certificate in Film & TV Production from TAFE, a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, Lighting Masterclasses at AFTRS plus several Battlefield Survival and Hostile Environment Courses, Advanced First Aid and a Nuclear, Chemical & Biological Warfare course with the Australian Army, plus Helicopter Underwater Escape and RFS training.

Andy is currently based in Sydney and shoots with Canon 4K Cinema Cameras including the new Canon C700 & C300 Mk2, Canon 1D-C and 5D Mk3. His lenses include: Canon 17-120mm, 85mm & 24mm Cineprimes, 70-200mm and 200-400mm lenses. He has a comprehensive lighting kit plus monitors, tripods, helix/movi, dolly, jib, and various mounts and accessories.
